Cyril and Methodius: The Apostles of the Slavs background

Cyril and Methodius: The Apostles of the Slavs

In the 9th century, two Byzantine Greek brothers, Cyril and Methodius, dedicated their lives to evangelizing and shaping the cultural heritage of the Great Moravian region.

The five-part television series follows the journey of brothers Constantine and Methodius, who would later be known as "The Apostles of Slavs," as they spread Christianity to Great Moravia between 826-885. The story begins with their childhood and adolescence in Thessalonica, their time in Constantinople, and their missionary journeys to Arabia and Kazaks. The brothers face opposition from paganism and Latin-speaking priests, but they establish their own school, introduce Slavic literature, and promote Christian ideology. Despite facing challenges, they lay the foundations of the rules of law and establish a Moravian Church. Constantine dies in Rome, leaving Methodius to continue their work, and he is eventually ordained as the first archbishop of Moravia.
