A disgraced children's show host, Randolph Smiley, is fired and left to fend for himself, while his replacement, Sheldon Mopes, becomes a sensation as the beloved purple rhino Smoochy. However, Sheldon soon discovers that those around him, including some he trusts, are driven by greed. Meanwhile, Randolph's obsession with killing Smoochy and reclaiming his luxurious lifestyle consumes him, leading to a downward spiral of madness.
