A talented young pitcher enters university after winning the National High School Baseball Championships, but an elbow injury forces him to rethink his future. He and his teammates work together to perfect a new slow-ball, but their baseball ambitions are crushed by the outbreak of WWII. They join the military and undergo rigorous training, eventually becoming human torpedoes in the navy. Despite the danger, the pitcher refuses to give up on his dream of mastering the "magic pitch."
