Talented clarinet player Ding Dong Williams and his six-piece band are hired by a movie studio, only to have their distinctive sound rejected due to Ding's inability to read music.

Ding Dong Williams, a talented clarinet player, joins a six-piece band at a motion-picture studio, despite his inability to read or write music. Initially, the studio plans to feature him in a film, but his limitations are soon discovered, threatening to derail his opportunity. However, a sympathetic secretary intervenes on his behalf, giving him a second chance to shine on the big screen.
