The movie follows Sunset, a Texas Ranger, as he faces two major challenges: rustlers and the desertion of the Kid, a former partner who helped him become a Ranger. The rustlers operate in a territory outside the state and beyond the Ranger's jurisdiction. When the rustlers learn about the location of the ballot box, which will lead to the annexation of their land to the state, the Kid discovers their plan and sets out to redeem himself by riding to warn Sunset.
