A woman's pursuit of justice leads her from the East Coast to San Francisco's infamous Barbary Coast, where she becomes embroiled in a complex web of secrets and deceit while working at a local saloon and grappling with her own desires and insecurities.

Sally Warren, a young woman from Cambridge, Massachusetts, arrives in the Barbary Coast to find her long-lost brother John. The area is in turmoil, with rival factions vying for power. Sally gets a job singing at a local saloon and becomes a star attraction. She receives a ring that belonged to her brother and convinces the police captain to investigate. Sally's investigation leads her to suspect that the saloon owner, Dude Forante, murdered her brother.
