Lucknow-based Ghulam Hussain moves to Bombay to improve his lifestyle, leaving behind his ailing mother and wife. He finds work cleaning taxis, then learns to drive and gets hired as a taxi driver. Despite his efforts, he struggles to save enough to visit Lucknow.
