In the abandoned mining town of Stillwell, Tex Williams and his sidekicks stumble upon a mail stage with bullet-ridden bodies, leading them to investigate further. They discover that the town is occupied by Brady and his henchmen, who have stolen a letter intended for Easterer Ruth Gordon, the rightful owner of the town. Brady plans to buy the town at a tax foreclosure and start a fake gold boom, but Tex decides to thwart his scheme by paying Ruth's taxes at the county seat. However, when he returns with the receipt, Brady and his gang are barricaded in the town, determined to shoot it out.
