Two ex-prisoners of war, David and Johnnie, return to David's hometown, where they find the village struggling. Johnnie, an Australian yachtsman, and David, a boat designer and heir to a renowned boat-building firm, join forces to renovate a fishing smack David designed and built before the war. They convert it into a yacht and aim to win a yacht race to secure new orders and revitalize the village's economy.
