Petra Kelly, a 1980s peace activist, is shot in her sleep by her lover and ally, Gert Bastian, a former West German army general. He takes his own life soon after. The movie explores whether it was murder or if Petra wanted to die. As Petra's life slips away, she experiences a flash-forward to the present and finds herself in a modern airport, where she navigates a journey of self-discovery with Gert and others from her past.
