Hitler's Olympics background

Hitler's Olympics

The 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin served as a platform for Nazi Germany to showcase its ideology and propaganda amidst the international sporting spectacle.

Germany was awarded the 1936 Olympic Games in 1930, but the event took a problematic turn when the Nazis took over in 1933. Despite initial reservations, Hitler allowed the games to proceed for his own purposes, leading to a tournament that celebrated German "Aryan" superiority over international brotherhood. The achievements of Jesse Owens, an African-American Olympic great, could not fully dispel the nationalistic undertones.
