Hoedown background

Hoedown

A has-been cowboy actor embarks on a publicity tour, unaware that his latest film's disappointing box office and scathing reviews have led to his studio dropping him, prompting a humbling encounter with his own fading fame.

Cowboy movie star Stoney Rhodes, played by Jock Mahoney, embarks on a personal appearance tour, unaware that his contract has been cancelled by the studio. His mother has mortgaged her home to fund the tour, which includes stops in towns where he's displayed posters of his own failed film. Stoney's world is turned upside down when he meets a reporter, Vera Wright, and a charming woman, Carolina Cotton, who helps him find his footing. Despite his clumsiness, Stoney catches the eye of the bank robbers and gangsters, who target a charity event featuring Eddy Arnold. In the end, Stoney's new confidence and a kiss from Carolina help him round up the gangsters, and he ends up with multiple studios bidding for his services. The film is a lighthearted, self-aware comedy that pokes fun at the Hollywood system.
