In the midst of Mardi Gras, three childhood friends from New Orleans face personal crises. Dr. Jason Kent must choose between pursuing fame as a research scientist and leaving his father's practice, as well as the love of his life, Susan Corvier. Father Victor Carducci is denied permission to open his own clinic and contemplates leaving the Church. Meanwhile, former prizefighter Joe Piavi struggles to collect a debt from his former manager, Mike Hennighan, while dealing with the threat of being sent to an asylum.
