In the 1970s, a catatonic math professor with an Oedipus complex is institutionalized in a South African asylum that mirrors the country's white society. The inmates, driven by a desire to revive the professor, initially try to bring him back to life. After one of their own takes their own life due to his condition, they escalate their efforts to a more drastic measure: murder.
