In the movie, U.S. Marshal Johnny Mack is sent to Green Valley to stop a group of outlaws who are terrorizing ranchers. On his way, he witnesses a murder and trails the killers to their hideout, where the sheriff is wounded and the outlaws escape. Johnny then investigates who has been buying up land in the area and discovers that only two men, Henry Faulkner and Fred Kendal, have made recent purchases. Kendal is seriously injured when his herd is stampeded by the outlaws, and Johnny spreads the news that Kendal is dead. The outlaws then try to buy the Kendal ranch from Kendal's sweetheart, Margie, but Johnny captures one of the outlaws and brings him to town to be identified.
