A woman discovers hundreds of letters and audio tapes her father sent from Vietnam in 1967-68, after his sudden death just months after returning from war. She finally reads them 30 years later, while pregnant, and embarks on a journey to get to know her dad and revisit his wartime experiences, leading her to form an unlikely friendship with a North Vietnamese soldier who had fought against her father.
