A young woman named Mlle de Maupin flees her uncle's castle, which has been invaded by Hungarian troops, by disguising herself as a clergyman named Theodore. Despite wearing a religious robe, Theodore is forced to join the King's army as a soldier. Theodore is assigned to serve as aide-de-camp to Alcibiade, a skilled and handsome warrior, but their relationship becomes complicated when D'Albert, a nobleman, uncovers Theodore's true identity as a woman. The story unfolds with a series of comedic misunderstandings, ultimately leading to Alcibiade's acceptance of his feelings for Theodore.
