Johnny Mack Brown, a former Ranger, has his horse stolen by Duke, Pete, and later Spencer. In response, town banker Fred Allison is forced to take out a large loan from livery stable owner Ed Hooper to cover the losses. Johnny tracks down Duke, extracting a confession that reveals Hooper as the gang leader. He recovers his stolen horse and confronts Hooper, but is instead thrown in jail by an outlaw disguised as a Marshal.
