An old widow, Anandi Devi, is brought to the city by her distant relative, Arun, only to discover she's intended to be a maid. Faced with this reality, she leaves and befriends a child beggar, finding refuge in a dilapidated house. As her kindness and good nature shine through, she earns the nickname "Naani Maa" from a group of youth led by rival leaders Shyam and Chhenu.
