After his father's sudden death eight years ago, Michas and his Mexican mother were left with nothing. When his mother also passed away, Michas was forced to leave Mexico in search of a better life in the United States. He joins the ranks of migrant workers and service workers, making his way to Texas. After struggling to make ends meet on the streets of Brownsville and Dallas, Michas finds solace in the small town of Denton, where he meets Penny, a young homeless woman who teaches him how to thrive and find a sense of belonging.
