A bus travels through the rain-soaked Assam Road, carrying a diverse group of passengers, including a European, a missionary, a French officer, a White Russian countess, a Chinese diplomat, and an American nurse. Their journey is disrupted by Japanese bombers, and the bus is diverted to a secret airport where they board a plane to India. However, upon takeoff, the pilot discovers the countess is a spy and sends her back. The plane is then attacked by Japanese fighter planes, leading to a crash landing in the jungle. With the radio about to go dead, the pilot learns of the countess's suicide and must now get the diplomat and the missionary to safety, with the help of nearby Buddhist monks.
