Two nomadic Piripkura Indians, Packyî and Tamandua, remain in the Amazon Forest, surrounded by farms and loggers, but still protected. Since 1989, Jair Candor, a FUNAI server, has been accompanying them, conducting regular expeditions with Rita, the third surviving Piripkura, to monitor signs of their presence and prevent encroachment.
