Piripkura background

Piripkura

In the heart of Brazil's Mato Grosso region, a nomadic tribe fights to preserve their ancient traditions and way of life as relentless deforestation threatens to erase their cultural identity.

Two nomadic Piripkura Indians, Packyî and Tamandua, remain in the Amazon Forest, surrounded by farms and loggers, but still protected. Since 1989, Jair Candor, a FUNAI server, has been accompanying them, conducting regular expeditions with Rita, the third surviving Piripkura, to monitor signs of their presence and prevent encroachment.
