A woman named Jessica Latham is chloroformed and her husband Michael is murdered, making it look like an overdose. However, the murder is recorded on an answering machine, putting the killer in a difficult situation. The killer tries to retrieve the tape to avoid being caught. The victim's friend, Eddie Flanders, receives the gruesome recording and initially thinks it's an April Fool's joke.
