The documentary follows Reverend George Exoo, a Unitarian minister from West Virginia, who has helped over 100 terminally ill people commit suicide. As filming progresses, George's motives shift and he begins assisting non-terminally ill individuals, becoming increasingly frustrated when they change their minds. He is accompanied by his amoral assistant Susan, who sees it as a business. After five years of filming, George is arrested by the FBI and sent to federal prison. The film explores the seductive nature of George's "calling" and is directed by Jon Ronson.
