Samuel Lount, a devoted family man and good neighbor, is a prominent member of the Children of Peace, a community dedicated to pacifism and spiritual asceticism. However, he becomes embroiled in radical politics and befriended by William Lyon MacKenzie, the leader of the movement, while helping a friend persecuted by the corrupt colonial administration. Lount is torn between his religious beliefs and the temptation to run for Parliament, ultimately facing a decision that will determine his path: to let his dreams of a free Canada die or to betray his faith and join the revolution.
