Andrés, a gay Cuban writer, is released from 8 years of imprisonment for his non-compliant works. He begins a new book, hiding it from the government and Santa, who comes to prevent him from leaving. As they become friends, Santa starts to question the government's cruelty towards Andrés for his sexuality. After being publicly shamed, Andrés prepares to escape to Miami with his book. Santa catches him as he leaves, but instead of turning him in, gives him a hug, hinting she won't reveal his escape. She stays behind, facing the harsh realities of Cuba's totalitarian government.
