In the rural village of Meerwala, Pakistan, Ghulam Fareed and his daughter Mukhtaran Mai live a poor life. When Mukhtaran's son allegedly molests a local girl, the Panchayat decides that Mukhtaran must be gang-raped by men from the Mashtoi family. Despite her devastation, Mukhtaran files a police report and eventually gets the 14 men arrested.
