In 2013, Professor Peter Williams, an alumnus of Boston University, is forced to resign due to his excessive drinking and fixation on an old war story about the USS LIONFISH, a US Navy submarine mysteriously sealed and locked in 1943. After a visit from a Navy department official, Peter is granted access to the submarine, which he explores with his team, including his ex-wife. However, they soon find themselves trapped and fighting for survival as the submarine comes to life, engaging in a battle with a German U-boat and a US Navy destroyer. Peter and his team must decide whether to continue fighting against the submarine or join forces with it to change the course of World War II.
