A teenage girl, Janis, a lonely and disoriented Latino, embarks on a one-night journey into the underworld of drug use in Washington Heights, New York. She is introduced to a group of teenagers who use drugs and listen to rock and trip hop music in the Lower East Side. Janis becomes involved, meets Rick and his friend Bill, two heroin addicts, and feels attracted to Rick. She tries heroin to help Bill and is left feeling guilty and ashamed. The experience leaves her with a deeper sense of emotional confusion and a newfound awareness of the misery around her.
