Sir Richard, a man of leisure, inherits a grand country manor and its lands from his recently deceased uncle. Upon his return to England, he becomes preoccupied with settling the legal aspects of his new property, but his attention is periodically diverted by unusual sounds emanating from the ash tree outside his bedroom window.
