Sufjan Stevens presents The BQE, a cinematic suite inspired by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and the Hula-Hoop. The project was originally performed in 2007 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Next Wave Festival. The BQE is a 12.7-mile urban roadway built over several decades, known for its poor planning, congestion, and urban blight.
