James Shannon, a seasoned mercenary, is seized and subjected to brutal torture during a reconnaissance mission in Zangaro, Africa, only to devise a daring coup to reclaim the country.

A soldier of fortune, Jamie Shannon, is hired by British mining interests to scout out Zangaro, a small African nation with rich mineral deposits. Arrested and imprisoned, Shannon meets a leading intellectual, Dr. Okoye, and after his release, he returns to London, offered to secretly invade Zangaro's capital and lead a military coup.
