Wealthy Lillian Belton, desperate to escape her unrequited love for Jack Kerry, attempts suicide. After her physician sends her to psychiatrist Mary White, Jack's true nature as an alcoholic is revealed. Mary convinces Jack to seek treatment, and after eight months, he appears cured. However, Jack has developed feelings for Mary, who must navigate her own emotions while trying to help the couple reconcile. Meanwhile, Mary's colleague Gordon Phillips pursues her romantically, but she prioritizes her practice. As tensions rise at a costume ball, Lillian's jealousy threatens to destroy the relationships of those around her.
