Kay Allyn, an 18-year-old heiress, is determined to marry layabout Jack Pierson on her birthday, despite her father's disapproval. However, her father, J.C. Allyn, the president of his own advertising company, is determined to stop the wedding with the help of a resourceful drifter named Bruce "Butch" Baeder. Butch's ingenuity and Kay's defiance lead to a game of wills between them, with J.C. caught in the middle.
