A young boy discovers a sense of belonging and purpose in China as he learns the ancient art of kung fu under the guidance of a wise mentor, while his mother works to rebuild their life in a new country.
A 12-year-old boy, Dre Parker, relocates to China and struggles to adapt. He befriends Mei Ying, but a rival, Cheng, begins bullying him. Mr. Han, the apartment's maintenance man, intervenes and teaches Dre kung fu to defend himself.
