In the late Qing Dynasty, China's economy declines as the government isolates the country. Wong Fei-hung misses his wedding to Thirteenth Aunt due to national matters, causing her to leave for Shanghai in despair. Wong follows, seeking the lost "Painting of Ink Dragon" and his lover's return. In Shanghai, Thirteenth Aunt finds shelter with her foreign classmate Pete, who has long admired her. However, she remains devoted to Wong. Meanwhile, Wong becomes embroiled in a gang dispute, framed and imprisoned in his search for the painting.
