In the mid-19th century, a small town is devastated by a smallpox outbreak, claiming the life of a young boy. He embarks on a journey to the afterlife, where he's given a second chance at life through a mystical library. There, he can choose a new storybook existence and be reborn. However, dark forces kidnap him and drag him down to the underworld, where various corners of hell vie to keep him from ascending to the next realm. A group of four guardians is dispatched to rescue him, but they have only 30 minutes to succeed.
