The film tells the true story of Juergen Blin, who as a child, was forced to flee his home and find work on a freighter. He later became a butcher's apprentice and discovered his passion for boxing, even going on to fight Muhammad Ali in 1971. Despite facing numerous setbacks, Blin persevered and made a name for himself as a self-made individual, refusing to let adversity hold him back.
