A woman's life is turned upside down after her husband, a local newspaper founder, goes missing during World War I. She must raise their two sons alone and keep the paper afloat. Years later, one son wants to shift the paper's focus from championing the working class to catering to the wealthy elite. Complicating matters are rumors that their father may not have died in France, but instead took another man's identity and is still alive.
