In a small Georgia town near the Okefenokee Swamp, a sheriff turns a blind eye as a family of moonshiners harmlessly traps and kills animals. A young boy named Sammy, however, decides to take action. With the help of his pet chimpanzee Chuck, Sammy sets out to free the trapped animals. The moonshiners, led by "Pa" Lucas and his sons, become enraged and start chasing Sammy and Chuck through the swamp. Just as things seem to be going badly for Sammy, a leopard from a nearby circus escapes and adds to his troubles.
