Two friends, Algernon and Jack, lead double lives by assuming different identities. Jack pretends to be his brother Ernest to set a good example for his ward, Cecily, while intending to propose to Gwendolen Fairfax. However, things become complicated when he discovers Gwendolen loves him because of his name, Ernest.
