On her birthday, a lonely widow named Hobbs is visited by a mysterious beggar who transforms into the Marvellous Magician. He gifts her a special seed that blooms into a tiny girl, Thumbelina, who quickly captures the attention of her only companion, a pig named Percival. As Thumbelina explores the swamp, she befriends various creatures before ultimately returning home to the widow Hobbs.
