A vagabond named Gaunt stumbles upon a horrific crime, witnessing a black woman's rape and murder by a farm boy named Ted. As the town's residents turn against him, Gaunt finds himself on the run from the accused boy's father, Link, and the local sheriff, Cal. In a desperate bid to escape, Gaunt flees into the woods, where he confronts Ted and ultimately kills him. However, his injuries leave him delirious and haunted by visions of his troubled past.
