Two drag queens, Noxeema and Vida, win a local pageant and earn a trip to compete in the Drag Queen of America pageant in Hollywood. They decide to drive to California with their fellow contestant, Chi-Chi, and their journey takes them through small towns with varying attitudes towards alternative lifestyles. After their car breaks down in one such town, they must deal with the local sheriff, who is homophobic, racist, and sexist, while learning more about themselves and each other.
