In pre-Pearl Harbor Mississippi, two brothers, Pete and Willie, share a strong bond. When Pete enlists, Willie yearns to join him, but is initially denied. Undeterred, Willie embarks on a 30-mile journey to the nearest town, eventually catching a bus to Memphis to find his brother at the recruiting office.
