War and poverty drive a young tourist boatman, Gulzar, to flee Kashmir with his best friend. However, a military crackdown ruins their escape plans, leaving them stranded in Gulzar's village. As they wait for things to improve, they meet a mysterious woman who's risking her safety to study the dying lake. Gulzar develops feelings for her, but this newfound love puts his friendship and escape plans in jeopardy.
