When the Storm Fades

A genre-defying docudramedy starring a real Filipino family of typhoon survivors re-enacting their daily struggle to recover from Super Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest storm in recorded history. The film follows the Pablos, who have rebuilt their seaside home in Tacloban, one of the Philippines' poorest neighborhoods, three years after the storm. Their slow recovery is disrupted by two awkward Canadian volunteers, played by Canadian Comedy Award Winners Kayla Lorette and Aaron Read, who are learning the difference between helping and being helpful. The film is a satirical examination of the white savior complex and a quiet meditation on grief in the era of climate change.
