A former rodeo champion, struggling to find meaning in his post-competitive life, embarks on a journey to Wyoming to herd mustangs, accompanied by his friend and with the blessing of his wife. Along the way, he becomes entangled in a battle against a corrupt government official profiting from the illegal sale of wild horses, while also discovering a romantic connection with the daughter of a local ranch owner.
