Xiao Hua, a young girl, is abandoned by her poor family and adopted by a woodworker, He Xiangdong, who renames her He Cuigu. Meanwhile, a revolutionary's child, Dong Hongguo, is renamed Xiao Hua and adopted by He Cuigu's adopter.
