Eddie McGeer, a troubled youth, steals a motorcycle and takes it for a joy ride with his girlfriend Marie before abandoning it due to police sirens. As the authorities are aware of the theft, Eddie goes into hiding, dreaming of escaping his troubles with Marie to a place like Acapulco. He keeps his whereabouts a secret from his friends and mother, while his social worker tries to get him to open up about his issues. Eventually, Eddie confides in his social worker, who recognizes that he's not a bad kid, but a scared one who was forced to mature too quickly.
